A Poem by Alexandra Elizabeth

"a heavy stillness at its core"

Is there a way
to feel the sting
through roots and soil
and backwards dreams?
I cannot say
but this feels like goodbye
a setting sun on the ebbing tide
the sand beneath
growing steadily colder
the creatures digging
deeper and deeper
to escape the dark
that chokes above
the water evolving to pure night
a writhing mass pounding the shore
a heavy stillness at its core
