Purple Haze

Purple Haze

A Poem by Sarah Jean
"

We are all in search of the unknown.

"
Purple haze,
a vast abyss thick with smoke.
Unending,
time is a distant concept.
'What are you looking for? Things are not always as you believe them to be.'
Echoes of whispering voices move languidly in the purple haze.
Ghostly figures move with ease through an endless smoky veil.
A frozen touch fills you with warm familiarity.
'I know you,' the words escape your mind.
'Yessss,' Like the drawn out hiss of a snake, the word stretches through you and the figure fades away.
Enamoured,
You're searching for something.
Drifting through the discoloured bruises of the purple haze,
a voice strikes you through the endless smoke.
'What are you looking for?'
'I don't know.'
The smoke thickens and licks your wrists.
'Then,' the voice surrounds you, 'how will you know when you have found it?'
Darkness.
'Where am I?'
'Here, is what you have been searching for.'
'I see nothing.'
'Open your eyes.'

sometimes a search for something..is what we are not even sure we are looking for...and when we find it we don't even know we did.

sometimes people are constantly so unsatisfied...always looking for something better...when it might be right in front of them..

being content is such a state of mind...and often we see nothing..and feel an emptiness and longing...

but we haven't opened our eyes enough...i like the title...well of course i am from the sixties...so Hendrix immediately came to mind...and forced me to look...

glad i did...this is a very thought provoking piece...it stirred me up...

I imagine your reiterating a dream sequence with lot's of vivid imagery. "The smoke thickens and licks your wrists" - is my favorite line.

Thank you :)
The verbal aspect of this catches the reader... I like the way you design the theme... in the beginning... you give us time to focus and then you move on with more... with the single word... seems a subconscious play with the mind...

Another powerful and a strong piece of writing. Very beautifully penn'd. Nice work.
'What are you looking for?'
'I don't know.'
The smoke thickens and licks your wrists.
'Then,' the voice surrounds you, 'how will you know when you have found it?'
Darkness....
These lines're outstanding. What you wanted to say you've just converted into your own words... Thoughts're awesome. You remind me here about dark nights (well, it's an evening time here).. lol but i can see that pic. by your words what you elaborated and well expressed by your own scent of words.

Beautiful work once again. Hope you'lll write some more new stuffs very soon. Keep writing! :)
