A Poem by Brad
"

remembering...

"

From the Arizona

To Omaha beach

The Alamo

And Ford’s Theatre

The stone black wall that stands in D.C.

Dachau and Auschwitz

World Trade center, Shanksville and the Pentegon

The battlefields of the mason Dixon line

To roadside epitaphs and cemetery headstones

A plaque, a hospital wing, a park or arena

We remember somehow

In someway

Everything affected us differently

From generation to generation

We carried scars

Some are fresh

Some are old and calloused

But we leave ourselves reminders

So that we don’t repeat

We don’t forget

And keep a space open

In the hearts of the living…

I like this. Every time I drive by a certain spot on a certain stretch of pavement in eastern ND, I see the spots where three-fourths of a family was destroyed. I see those markers everywhere, from the rez to the backwater hamlets that dot the landscape. The sad thing is, we never learn from our mistakes, and we are bound to blip out of existence at some point and there will be no trace of us at all. That puts everything into perspective real fast.

I like this write. Memorials are very important thing and in the way you write of these some are able to reflect.

Powerful, poignant, tragic and most importantly.....true.
The reality of this poem....you're really just talking America and its battles.
This insanity, unfortunately is world wide and has been since the beginning of man when Ug killed Ba over the saber tooth tiger's remains. How sad and what a reflection on mankind and humanity.
Apparently, Bradley...all those reminders we've left behind...Haven't taught us a damn thing.
This was a terrific write and it's nice that you left us with a glimmer of hope.
I just hope you're right.

This is one of the better treasures i have found on this site. Its rich language filters a vast amount of everything that I figure to be a amazing feat. You truly know how to deliver remarkable lines. I share much of your outlook.

Humans have endured Hell here on Earth. My fear is that people WILL forget. In today's world people only know what they have experienced. My hope is that we after we are all gone, our children will continue to better themselves and not follow in our mistakes throughout history. War gives birth to war. Great tribute.

Let this one stand as yet another....human condition demands reminders, we get swept up and its not like we forget but we do push it to the back. Great write B.
