Ode to the Butterfly

Ode to the Butterfly

A Poem by Sophie
"

another poem about- you guessed it- innocence!

"

Oh, butterfly,

the image of innocence,

hatched from it's cocoon,

not knowing any wickedness.

But soon, your wings will dry,

soon, you'll have to fly,

and then learn of danger, and of being prey,

for the birds hunt today.

Your colorful wings dull from use,

from wear and tear,

the patterns fade from abuse,

yes, it is unfair.

'Tis unfair that beauty must be stolen,

unfair that innocence cannot reign golden.

Because soon, the butterfly's life comes to an end,

because innocence always expends.

I like the idea of a poem about innocence. Very nicely done. I like how you explained all the symbolism and representation. It really helps not miss anything and then open up new doors to other things for deeper minds. I'm sure you'll get what you want from this one. Once again, keep it up Sophie

I love this :) How its innocence reminds me of a child who grows to a young adult already aware of the wickedness in the world. Very good :)

Amazing again! You have a really strong poetic voice. This was descriptive and gave me a picture of what you wanted to say, but it didn't throw a bunch of words at me, either. Perfect!!

A very good poem. I like the way you described the life of the butterfly. The story of the butterfly could be similar to the life of a human being. I like the positive ending to the poem. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
