Eternal Cellar

Eternal Cellar

A Poem by Mary

Your burnt amber eyes,

Lifeless

They bore into my soul

And I see a mindless child

What has become of you,

Dear one?

I sometimes wonder,

If someone has placed your light in a jar

It is in a cellar somewhere,

Not near or far just not within reach

I cannot return you,

I wonder if I should

Would your anger return,

With your new beginning?

Would I meet the man of yesterday,

A man I have only heard stories of?

Would I regret my noble act?

But such ponderings are not worthy of my time,

Or yours,

Since your end is so near

Will you make it to my graduation year?

Or will no one cheer me on

Since so many now are in that cellar,

How big is it?

With any and everybody,

Do they make room?

For the newbies,

The ones that life has abandoned

Will I join you there?

I hope we are all on the same shelf.
