Oxygen

Oxygen

A Poem by Mary

Oxygen.

Sweet precious oxygen,

I miss you.

Like a bug in a jar

I am trapped.

Nevermore to feel your

Cleansing dance in my lungs.

The sweet release of life,

As I take you in

Second by second,

Breath by breath.

No,

Now I take in the stale

Air of failure and stress.

Like sand in the desert

It clings to my throat in agony.

How did I ever

Get into this mess?

There are so many

Problems to address,

More than I am willing to count

Or even find an amount.

What a silly thing life is,

Let’s hope the dead breathe easy.

I like this poem. It speaks to the frustration we all feel and must deal with regardless of the cause. Well said. Keep writing.
