Contradictions

Contradictions

A Poem by Maddi Snowden

I am constantly amazed at how
easily people can contradict themselves.

A man who wants to live to see his
grandchildren smokes a pack a day.

A woman who wants to be treated
equally uses her body to sway opinions.

A boy who said they'd always be there
leaves without another word.

And these contradictions no matter
how big or small
always seem to get overlooked because
apparently somewhere along
the way we picked up that
words speak louder than actions
that
good intentions are enough.

But good intentions are
never enough because the
road gets tough and when
the road gets tough,
the tough get going even
though they are the ones
making life more difficult for
not just themselves but
everyone around them.

Maybe that is why it is better to
be blunt and bold instead of
simply fading into a crowd
of people contradicting their
contractions
people who are waiting for
change instead of creating it

Maybe it is better to not give a damn
in the first place.
