Why

Why do they have the rights,

to bring up the past and the fights

Why do they try to make me decide,

when all we ever did was collide

Why do they think that them coming back,

wouldn’t end in a heartbreaking attack

Why do they think they can fix the past,

when all it did was put my brain in a permanent cast

Why do they want to come back all of a sudden,

and have the words of the witch come from my cousin

Why do they think saying “it’s time to come home,”

would have me running back like melting foam

Why do they think I’d want to leave my dad, 

when all they ever did was make me feel bad

Why do they think they can have my time, 

when my “mom” would never pay a single dime

Why do they think they can change my life,

when all they ever did was stab my back with a knife

Why do they think that after 7 years,

I’d think about returning only because she was shedding tears

Why do they try to make my dad look like the bad guy,

when he’s the only one that stayed and would never lie

Why did she think she could just walk out the door,

and just leave me there crying on the floor

Why did she think abusing me was okay?

Probably because I was too young to have a say.

The truth is, 

I’ll never go back,

and if I ever had to, 

I wouldn’t unpack.
