Children of War

Children of War

A Poem by Marc Marlon Villaflor

I want to end this pain, I embraced my ancestor’s belief

Believing this room will protect and helps us overcome our grief

I started hearing louder explosions, and when it is over

Stillness breaks my realm and it booms down under

We experienced too much bedlam and it is completely insane

This war will achieve nothing, it will bring more pain

We have no food to eat, the water comes late

We end up begging for bread and a trifling meat

We chill, sleeping with fears in the cold winter nights

We wake up seeing blood wasted in this continuing war

We ask for help as our souls can’t breathe

The plane keeps flying, seems it is chasing our heartbeats

The bags were dropped down from the plane and poisoned the thin air

Our future looks bleak and everyone disappears

Did you hear our cries? Could you stop all these lies?

We need you, free us from the pain of this despise

See our tears, our wounds, and our gloomy future

Rescue us,spare us from this deathly core

We need you, we need your mighty claws, my valiant eagles

Oh hear our cries, in our land of compromise.

Looking those children of war who suffered most in Syria, really breaks my heart. I wish this war will over and they can re-create their precious lives in the future.

This is very sad, but well written. My only criticism for this piece is that sometimes you put the singular of something where it should be plural, for example you said, "The plane keeps flying, seem it chasing our heartbeat," and it should be, 'The plane keeps flying, seems its chasing our heartbeat.' Alrighty? Overall great poem Marc.

the same sadness in this Syrian war as in WWW2 affects the innocent children the most..they are the next generation, and what are we leaving them? they need nurturing with love and hope not fear and pain. My heart cries out for what we are doing to humanity.. a poem that needs to be read Marc

I couldn't agree more thanks for sharing.
This is really sad. Yeah, Terrorism robs everything away from children and families alike. I don't know why 'war' should exist actually. It became a part of human nature ever since Cain killed his brother Abel. Everything happened in the surge of a snap in a human's sanity. I mean, why? Why should we kill to settle our differences with one another? Why are we doing such blood crap murder without feeling conscience?
I don't think it's even fair for innocent people to be robbed off their supposed freedom just because a damn ruler doesn't know how to rule.
We are all unconscious beings while the other part of the world is getting destroyed with the pit of sadness and destruction.
I know that this is happening but I can't find the heart to deal with it nor can I endure it. I know that it's a part of human nature to be selfish but this is too much.

_Anyways, for caring and writing a wonderful piece I should really applaud you and I hope somehow these words would reach the people who tend to care but cannot do anything.

the children are the most gravely affected in times of war. the terror, the trauma and the hunger will be deeply embedded in their young minds. it's terrible that we allow such atrocities to happen. no person must be allowed to hold power or to overturn any existing government at the expense of these children. i like that you incorporate in your poem some of the social and political issues that our world had experienced and currently is experiencing. Do i need to state that this is thought provoking? :)

Whether we are aware of it or not, war is a natural behavior. Our bodies are at war 24/7. The war in Syria is for good reason, the leadership needs to go, but then it leaves you with one question. Is the alternative any better? Civil war, yes the children will suffer and unfortunately these young souls will be the fighters of any new outbreaks. Good piece Marc!

People never consider the children that are affected by war. They are human and they feel. We don't see that we steal their innocence and hurt their souls. It is sad! It is heartbreaking!
