The Things They Couldn't Take

The Things They Couldn't Take

A Poem by The Musings of Mary H.

You played like children did, you felt different then
They laughed, you cried, you do remember when
Because you did not recognize their motivation
But your purpose was superior to their reason

You have been bitter as months have turned years
You eventually laughed, pushing away of your tears
Maybe you have felt numb, the sting of aged scars
Wasting your life away wishing on secluded stars

Still, there are belongings they can never take from you
They can steal your riches, make you black and blue
But they can never have your love or your forgiveness
The ability to encourage someone or even to bless

These are the things you have within your beautiful self
Things held deep, put on hold, dusty on a back shelf
Items once cherished, consecrated by your innocence
Now is second place to pain, the one thing making sense

Something has swelled deep within you even stronger
Than you have felt before, a sweltering pain of stark hunger
Has permeated every appendage surrounding your heart
Those things have saturated you, tenderly pulling you apart

These the are things they could not take, but to give you can
Ear to ear smiles, your creativity, the touch of your hand
The way you make other people in the same room feel
The way others will watch what you do and start to heal

Mary, these words say it all for me, know ing you have these abilities and can use them, is the first step to healing, forgiveness being paramount. Very nicely written.

But they can never have your love or your forgiveness
The ability to encourage someone or even to bless

being nice is contagious. If people see someone doing something nice, other people catch on and try to do the same. This is what I beleive, and what I thought about your poem. To tell you the truth Mary I loved it. " Maybe you felt numb, the sting of aged scars. Waisting your life away wishing on secluded star" These are two brilliant lines. These two line I relate to perfectly. This is now one of my new favorite poems, well done Mary
