Satellites

Satellites

A Poem by marcie
"

up there

"
You sit up there with them
A halo above the horizon
While we’re here missing you
Bearing tears as gifts to take
And stitch into satellites

What a perfect tapestry
Your star finishes the deck
In the inky dome of sky
We are Magritte’s doves, weeping
Standing on our own satellites

Even the tallest couldn’t reach you
Spacescrapers won’t do either
All I can do is send a balloon up
Yellow, your favourite colour, and
Hope that it sends my thoughts

One more satellite in the cosmos
To match your own array
You wish to see me when its time
But you’ll be long gone by then
Here is to our distance

Perhaps if I try again, one night
I’ll see a star seeping into dust
And know that wherever you are
However eternal our separation is
We share the same satellites
