The Yester Ghost

The Yester Ghost

A Poem by Mark

THE YESTER GHOST

Like those enormous showy roses

Which so captivate our eyes

Though they disappoint our noses--

Your love, my dear, is only size!

Like a bulb of elephant garlic

Lacking pungency or savor

As deceptive as a varlet,

Substituting size for flavor

So are your grand approaches

All appearance, lacking depth.

So, I'll be bayin' "Buenas Noches!",

And seek my One Love someplace else.

You drew me so slyly in,

(But I was, Oh!, too glad to come!)

Where I had 'til then so rarely been

But now I'm feelin' pretty dumb!

Because the damp, pink trap you set

Shortly dried and turned to grey

Once it had caused me to forget

The Greater Prize I'd won one day.

So, I'll be sighin' "Sayonara",

And shortly addin' "Adios"

Serve up a dose of "Dos Vedanye"

Now you've become the Yester Ghost!

Mark
Contrary to popular supposition, this is not a vitriolic attack
at a specific woman (ie, my ex-wife), but rather a slam at myself,
for failing to learn from past mistakes, and hence, repeating them.

I almost want to echo what Emma said. I very much enjoyed reading this poem and am looking forward to reading all the others.

Am I allowed to say that I smiled through much of the above and laughed aloud at the cleverness of the final stanza! Well, have said it now and stand accused! There's pain and naughtiness and lessons learned in your writing; but then, you've always managed to include more than one tangent in your posts.. you like to rattle thoughts, get people on the cerebral move .. and you've continued the trend with this. :)

This was perhaps the most poetic way of saying "D'oh!" EVER!
Well done, Mark. Love is tricky and it is blind and it is all good until it isn't. I think we all can relate!

XD Wow! That little slip of dirtiness caught me off guard and I laughed! I can totally identify with the theme here, repeated stupid mistakes. The form is perfect and it's not overdone at all. Very funny, pretty serious, and overall awesome! Here's to not making the same mistakes! :D

I liked this one...I went from wanting to cry to wanting to laugh at least 3 times. And the flow is flawless. You can't buy a ticket for a ride like that! Truly felt it Mark! Cheers!

"Like a bulb of elephant garlic
Lacking pungency or flavor
Or a night that's only starlit
Without the moon to savor"

ANYBODY HAVE A BETTER RHYME FOR "GARLIC" THAN "VARLET"??

(Thanks, FGF and CF for your inputs--will take both under advisement!)

I can relate all too well to your words... the frustration and the pain.. You've given an insight into relationships and all rippling rivers that flow out from our choices.. Powreful, Mark.
