It's Called Pain

It's Called Pain

A Poem by mcceewrites

I just can't get over the way it made me feel deep down.
It's making my skin crawl.
Now I'm crawling out of my own skin,
Just trying to find a way out.
Can't wash it off with water.
No matter how hot it is.
It only gets harder.
It only gets worse.
I feel so uncomfortable in my own skin.
It makes me sick to my stomach.
It makes me cry when I'm happy.
It pushes me out, when I want to stay in.

It's called pain.
Have you ever known it?
Have you felt the rain,
And wanted nothing more but to disown it?
Because of the heaviness that it caused.
All the nights, all the falls.
I fucked up and kept it.
It's called pain.
Haven't you ever felt it?

These are strong words on the subject. I've heard that women have a higher tolerance for pain than men, but think that notion must be too general. Just as we are all different, so, too, are our ways of dealing with pain and capacity for it. Then, there are at least two types of pain--physical and emotional. In my experience, emotional hurts the worst. (If only aspirin could sooth a broken heart) Okay, I'm blabbering too much.
As others have pointed out, it's strong piece with some creative lines.

Deeply felt words here, mccee.
Reminds me of anxiety. That constant, restless, negative energy.

Such powerful lines. I definitely felt that in so many ways. I can't even recall all the pain I suffered but nothing is worst than coddling that pain when all you have to do is let go.

You are so sweet! I am currently giving you a cyber hug! :) Thank you!
Very expressive! I think you were able to capture your innermost feelings, very well written. However, can't help but notice the pain. Hang in there, it shall pass!

Not sure if the pain in question is physical or psychological. Maybe some of each. Has the sound of acute depression.

yes, been there done that. Wanting to get out of our own skin, whether over rejection, or guilt, failure.
Those times when we just can't look at ourselves in the mirror.

It's a tragedy, but we all go through it!
