My Ship and I

My Ship and I

A Poem by The Scholar
"

I was thinking about ships, and . . . voilà.

"

I stand alone amidst the starry sky and stormy sea,

Upon a ship with silver sails that treads the world for me,

Upon my brow a silver crest that marks the home I love,

Upon my lips a sacred kiss preserved for Him above,

And in my heart a merry song despite the waters’ rage,

For far am I from every thing that man may call a cage,

And freedom’s bells they tink and chime from oceans far and cold,

While others gong with hollow sound beyond the mountains old,

The sea is fierce, its waves are harsh, and far am I from home,

Yet beauty speaks atop its peaks of white and creamy foam,

My ship with silver sails is sleek and bares its teeth to trials,

Together we traverse the globe and taunt the many miles,

For she and I are lovers lost and happily content,

We shall remain this way until our hours are full spent,

For lost is found when you are lost with friends about your side,

No matter whether land or sea or sky or air or tide,

And we as one shall seek the stars that lie beyond our reach,

‘Til we collapse and sink away upon some weary beach,

Where we will rest in sand and peace at last upon the shore,

My ship, my sea, my stars and I to sail again no more,

Yet mem’ry’s aged and often fades as time and wealth soon do,

Still life was fair to man and ship who sailed free and true.

I am terrified of the ocean but I agree with Gabriela, this poem holds so much beauty that it makes me want to go out and buy a boat and sail the seas forever. You have truly done a great job here, the rhyme is flawless and it flows effortlessly. Absolutely amazing poem!

One of my favorite subjects...the sea. This is a very eloquent piece of writing that drew me in immediately with the first line. You have some real talent! Hope you don't mind, I am adding this to my library. Thank you for your inspiration.
