Nothing Left to Lose

Nothing Left to Lose

A Poem by Drowning with Stars

Sometimes I wish I had the courage to just run
Through the grass and in the breeze
The open world everlit by the moon and the sun
I'd have the power of the thunder and lightning on stormy days
So even without that dependable God-given light,
He'd still make sure that I'd be okay.

I know if I just had you with me I could be brave enough.
Just as long as you promise to lift my face to the sky when I seem sad
So I'd look up into the stars' world,
Instead of back into the past.

So if you ever get tired of wearing those half-hearted smiles,

Know that I'm here if you need some comfort through the twists and the guile.

Everyone knows your cover,
But I didn't take for granted that you let me meet you.
I know there's so much more learn,
But I'll understand if you decide not to leave the rest vulnerable, too.

If you don't come around, I'll blame you for nothing;
If I do for a moment, it's only because I'm afraid.
You see, I've lost things in the past,

But my heart sometimes believes that I can't get hurt if I'm the one to push away.

What all my nervous rambling really comes down to is this:
I believe that a new beginning with you might be that dream they call bliss.
So it's up to you whether or not you let me in.
If you do, I'll forever be your ally, your partner, your friend.

Just look into my eyes and promise that if I leave everything behind but you,
I'll be left with nothing to lose.

About
What I love about poetry is that it's completely personal. Not only to the writer, but the same poem also means something a little different to every single reader, the same way a song is different to.. more..
