So Alive

So Alive

A Poem by Undying Glory

My song/poem inspired by James Cameron's epic movie, "Avatar". Hope you like it!

So Alive (Inspired by the movie "Avatar")
Is what I see deep in your eyes
Like the sparkle in the distance
And all around me it resides
And what I

Feel the sadness in the rain
Feel the ground beneath my feet
I am free now once again
And take me

I see you so clearly now
And when the world's consumed in flames
We'll make it out somehow
Into the

As we soar into the sky
See the world in all its grace
But still I wonder why

I'm not who you are
But I know for sure
What I'm fighting for
I'm falling apart
But I know I've found
What I'm searching for
And I'm seeing the light
Now you've opened my eyes
The world is so alive

Seems to stop as I look at you
At the glimmer in the trees
As it shines off the morning dew
Into the

Hear the whispers of the past
And now you're by my side
I just want this to last
I'm not who you are
But I know for sure
What I'm fighting for
I'm falling apart
But I know I've found
What I'm searching for
And I'm seeing the light
Now you've opened my eyes
The world is so alive

I can't be who you are now
I'm not who I pretend to be
But does it matter at all now
Now you're here with me
Fight by my side now
Now that our time has arrived
And I'll come back to you
The world is so alive

In response to some readers, I'm explaining each and every reference to the movie. If you already know, or have a good idea, please ignore this.
The song is written from Jake Sully's perspective.
1) "Sparkle in the distance"/"Glimmer in the trees" - Anyone who ever watched the movie knows how freaking beautiful the set of Pandora is
2) "Feel the ground beneath my feet/I am free now once again" - Jake Sully is wheelchair-bound. While controlling his Avatar for the first time, he was so happy he could walk again...
3) "World's consumed in flames" - First battle against the humans
4) "Whispers of the past" - The Na'vi have a tree called the Tree of Souls, where a Na'vi can listen to the voices of his or her ancestors
5) "Fight by my side now/ Now that out time has arrived" - Final battle against the humans
6) "And I'll come back to you" - Neytiri has told Jake Sully earlier in the movie that the Na'vi believe those who die return as new Na'vi. This is what happens after Jake Sully suffocates in Pandora's atmosphere at the end of the movie and dies...
Hope that helped...

Beautiful. I luved the line, 'the world is so alive' cause most of the time, we don't realise that. Good going.

This is, indeed, a wonderful exercise in writing. The format is interesting: single-word first lines that really complete the thought of the previous stanza... effective transition between stanzas and a good match for the changing scenes in the movie. The three stanzas that don't follow this format stand out, though I don't get a strong feeling about whether this is good or bad. This is one of those poems where I think I'd minimize the use of apostrophes... I first noticed the effect of apostrophes here in 'world's' in line 13. On first glance I wanted to make 'world's' a possessive instead of a contraction... this disrupted my reading just enough to be noticeable and caused me to look at other words like I'm, I've and you're, wondering whether the flow or reading might be better if the contractions were spelled out (I really don't know, but the fact that I focused on such things does suggest something). I don't think 'and take me / in' connecting the second and third stanzas is as smooth as the others (probably because I can't figure out the meaning/connection to the preceding lines) and the verb tense change in the last stanza is puzzling (to 'I'll come back' being said to someone who is already 'fighting' by your side). The theme and subject are well matched and flow nicely. All in all, well done.

You did a great job here. You took the story and shrank it down.
I like the images you have provided here. One of my favorite things
is how you have expressed the feeling that this person is inspired
by someone they wish to be after their personal growth is complete.
Your poetry is always lyrical. I see a natural song writer in your work.
I believe your poetry is great, but I don't your style is meant to be read.
Creating music for you, will be a slam dunk.
