A Poem by Michael G.

I need a fuel gauge for my heart

because too often it has run on empty.

And I need an odometer for my mind

to keep track of the many memories it has passing through.

Fresh tread for my feet

for all the miles down the many different paths traveled.

I need anti skid brakes

to prevent me from crashing and burning.

Automatic hand signals

for all the missed turns I’ve made.

Most of all

I need an emergency signal

for when I break down alone

on lonely, dark, empty highways.

I need an automatic rear view mirror

to prevent me from being blinded

and blindsided by what I’ve already passed.

You must know how to drive me,

because you get me up to speed

and keep me on cruise control.

You have taken me recklessly

around dangerous curves at times,

coming out of them breathlessly and smoking hot.

I need a push button ignition

to allow for easier starting of my engine.

I need windshield wipers

to keep my eyes clear of tears.

Antifreeze in my veins

to keep me going when everything turns cold.

Give me air conditioning when things get hot.

Paint me your favorite colour

so you’ll enjoy how I look.

Sorry, I don’t come with cup holders.

But I’ll hold on with what I got!

Michael, this is both witty and so very well written.

Real problem of course, is that passing one's driving test does not necessarily make one a good driver. :))
