Musing in sixteen lines

Musing in sixteen lines

A Poem by Michael Oliver
"

A memory filtered by 45 years

"
The present live in old barns
Echoed as the forgotten
Myths in a spent mystery
Wrapped in a written charm
And yearning Theocritus
Upon the scent of summer hay
And wagons and sparrow song
And the hum of lazy flies

A snatch of nostalgia
A simple touch away
Live - behind those curtains
Which were secretly drawn
Under the light bulb stare
A silent harvest reaped
Still at play - this empty game
Of times aching garner

this is definitely nostalgia for me...i nearly lived in barns in the summers when I spent time in Vermont as a kid.
so this brings me back and makes me smell the hay, the manure...remember watching and helping the cows to be milked...
so visual...but auditory and the sense of smell overwhelms in a good way.
i so much wonder what the 17th line might say.

Cant really say we were involved with Puritan poltics beheading our King estsablishing a short lived.. read more
An intriguing bucolic format; capturing a pondering of life, in such an easy flowing poetical idealized manner. Enjoyable read and poignantly thought-provoking... :-)

Very nicely written Michael, impressive to say the least. A lot of wisdom in brevity.

Thank you Andrew
' .. yearning Theocritus ~ Upon the scent of summer hay ~ And wagons and sparrow song ~ And the hum of lazy flies '

Such a gentle, graphic flow of words. Whatever felt, whatever seen, there seems to be more positives or perhaps contented logic in the up-to-now. The 'aching' perhaps the thoughts one has of this or that magical moment?

I like capturing the world in various mediums for a long time I was a painter, but more recently I realize the same imperative can be used to direct words as well as brushes. more..
