Come Play

Come Play

A Poem by Michelle

Come play with me!

I want

to swing my body in a circle with yours

until our fingers slip

sweaty and red.

Then maybe

let’s lay in the grass a bit

and watch the parade

of zoo animals march across the sea.

(Do you see that hippo too?)

Come run with me.

I need

to hear wind breathe, in cool, tickled whispers,

all the secrets it knows into our ears.

Then maybe

lets roll down that hill and

talk about what she told us

and if we agree.

(I’m not sure I do.)

Come, please tell me a story.

I'd like

to hear the one about that girl who was trapped

by the king in a snowglobe and

how she faced that dragon who haunted her bedroom all by herself.

Then maybe

I'll fall fast asleep

and know how to fight dragons too.

Until our fingers slip/sweaty and red...
-I loved this line and it made me think of these two young friends who will swing each other around for so long, have so much fun together that they don't realize they are giving themselves a skin burn. That's how much fun they have!

I like the visual of zoo animal clouds marching across the ocean. It alludes to the next verse about the wind personified, which is a smooth transition. I really like this piece.
