They say stones don't bleed

They say stones don't bleed

A Poem by Kimberly R. Larkins
"

wrote while riding home (someone else was driving - this time!)

"

They say stones don't bleed

I stood in the gap when you needed me.
I held back the tide.
I stopped the overwhelming majority,
Giving you a place to hide.

The rain washed away signs of superficial damage.
The sun dried up any remains.
I stood there ready to do it all for you, again.

Then it happened.
You said you didn't need me -
Never did.

You left.

I didn't know which cut deepest -
The words that came before,
Or the silence I was steeped in.

They say stones don't bleed.
They were wrong.

I like the ananlogy. You were as strong as a stone when it came to helping him. You remained tough against all and let him find shelter behind your sturdiness. . . . but yes, you are a loving, caring human being. And in my opinion deserved better than him anyway.
Great write!

This is such a strong piece.
so deep, and the pain can be sensed.

it was an enjoyable read

This is so very deep. The pain so potent. Just love the title and your closing couplet. It says it all. Well done!
Frances.

My favorite part was:

"I didn't know which cut deepest -
The words that came before,
Or the silence I was steeped in."

I really like this poem.
Sad, yet beautiful ^.^

i loved this; i really connect with the message -- i had a friend throw me aside when they had healed. my only suggestion is to drop the last two lines as they add nothing to what is a powerful poem. jmho
