The Zone

The Zone

A Poem by Arly Parent

I'm stuck here in that zone

the one you've dropped me in

So tantalizingly close

perfect punishment for my sin

My sin of getting too close, falling, and of caring

My sin of listening and appreciating

of loving and respecting

My sin of being me

A twinge at every sight of you

a painful, cold reminder

burns white hot and searing

never to be

unwelcome words that I'm hearing

words that can kill, maim, and destroy

Hello, friend

words that can kill yet again

so there's nothing worse than

when

you hear

that phrase

...just friends

About
There's nothing about me. I play with pauses as well as silence. I write words, assign meanings and junk, and play with a language that might be as much my own as another. I don't know. more..
