Lost

Lost

A Poem by Patty Neff

I wander around in these shoes

of which I barely recognize

joining in the motions

of the daily required dance

pretending to be someone I am not

before, fearful of who I am

fearful of the pain sensitivity can create

now, fearful of what I have become

caught in the silence of loneliness

only to produce a hopeless vacant stare

leaving me motionless within

vast numbers of human interactions

that ring tin of true emotions

love shared in meaningless exchange

bouncing off the skin

because it does not truly belong

not able to penetrate and nourish the soul

squandered away within the wind

everything in-between love given

merely a surreal freakish theater show

unable to grasp true meaning and purpose

dreams slipping through fingers like sand

searching out among the other strangers

hoping to find one so gifted

as to glimpse and mirror the ghostly shadow

of the very essence of my soul

so it may live and breathe once again, in freedom

yearning to be brought back from the abyss

even if only for a moment in time

You've captured, in essence, my personality.
Unknowingly, you've voiced the plights of me, myself, and I. And maybe knowingly, the plights of many an outspoken person.
I honestly like the whole poem in its entirety.
Paranoia, beautiful simplicity, fear, and complex emotions are plainly expressed. I applaud you on achieving such an understanding. :)

I do encourage you, however, to color your poetry with punctuation. That will help project the intended flow of the piece with much less difficulty. If it's your style to leave out such things, pay me no heed.
I hope you keep on writing. Potential is present, hmm?
