Should not talk when taking food

Should not talk when taking food

A Poem by Dupur Mitra

Should not talk when taking food
Therefore we talk
talking comes itself

we are talking about
some people do not want to give us money
They said, will be paid after finishing works

Should not talk when taking food
Therefore we talk
talking comes itself

we are talking about
some people have been beat us
when we claim for money

Should not talk when taking food
Therefore we talk
talking comes itself

His wife was crying last night
because his child was crying for football
but cannot buy it

Should not talk when taking food
Therefore we talk
talking comes itself

I can almost hear kettle drums in the background of this one. I truly enjoyed this work and I like, Dupur that you seem to concentrate on social issues and get down to the most fundamental problems afflicting the poor and disenfranchised people. I admire that and enjoyed this immensely.

this was a great write- it made me delve deep and create imagery along with what was said in the poem, the repetition makes the poem haunting in a way and you can feel the pain along with it. i really have enjoyed reading your poems!

Simple and wonderful. The repetitiveness helps the message to really sink in and make a point. Good job!!!

The reiterated line "Should not talk when taking food makes me think of the asiom of good manners: "Don't talk with your mouth full." But I'm sure the poem hs a deeper meaning.

I agree with KAOImsted - "our cultures are so far removed from one another, and yet we are universally the same". Great way to put it. Great write.

The second to last stanza, about the child crying for the football, that just made me so sad; I can recall some very lean times when our daughter wanted something so simple, like the child in your piece, and we were unable to buy it for her, because the money we did have needed to go elsewhere...our cultures are so far removed from one another, and yet we are universally the same. Thank you for posting this.
