Love leads to Happiness. Intoxication Leads to Goodbyes.

Love leads to Happiness. Intoxication Leads to Goodbyes.

A Poem by Molly F
"

unspoken words to a substance abusive parent

"

Love. I loved you when you could not love yourself.

You have lost the support from all of your children, but you will never lose their

hearts, full of love.

Your liver is failing, your eyes are yellow, and without a sip of wine every hour,

your body would crumble.

I tried to help you, but you shut me and my love out.

I bring you flowers and love, and you still keep me locked out.

Locked out your house and locked out of your mind;

Hopeful that our love did not get lost along with your old self.

Intoxication.     You lost your job because you showed up intoxicated one too many times.

You risked lives every time you pressed down the gas pedal, intoxicated.

You did not think about me or the people you almost killed that night.

I took responsibility for your actions to protect your reputation, but your intoxication

Blinded your mind from any memories that night.

Happiness.      Since when did it become my enemy--

It is something we both said goodbye to, but luckily I rediscovered happiness.

The only thoughts in my head being to compose an elegy.

You have not died yet, but I already lost you long ago.

Your soul is nowhere to be found, and both of us are grieving.

It is hard to hold on to happiness.

Goodbye.        You ignore me and the grave thoughts looming over both of us.

I will never give up on you, but I need to protect myself, too.

That is why I am saying goodbye.

Goodbye to the gloomy, sick aura that follows you everywhere you go.

Goodbye to the worries that distract me from what my heart really wants.

Goodbye to watching you grow sicker and sicker.

Goodbye to your lies and demeaning words.

Goodbye to a love I thought was stronger than I could ever be.

Really good poem. I enjoyed all the organization use for each stanza and the topic for each as if it was its own poem itself.
