While you’re away

While you’re away

A Poem by Monday Parker

I miss your sleepy face

Walking down the hallway in the

Early morning

Your golden-brown hair tousled

Rubbing the slumber from your

Thick lashes

Seeking the warmth and comfort of my arms

As when you were a baby

Arms out stretched

Waiting for me to enclose you in my

Motherly hold

As you grow older

Somedays you awake and start your day

Without seeking my embrace

Swells my chest with woven emotions

You are becoming independent

Learning more each day

Becoming the man you will be

One day

But not today- today you are still my baby

My little growing boy

I want to hold you and never let go.

My sweet son

 I will always be here

To wrap my arms around you

I don’t care how old you are

You will always be my baby.

Mommy loves you with everything that I am.

A well worded, heartfelt piece about a mother's deep feeling for her son here. Behind the words we pick up the feeling of time's relentless. We must cherish those we love, for eventually they will leave us, one way or the other.

A heart touching piece that shine the brightest light on a mother's love. Beautifully done.

This is great. Any parent could read this and know exactly what the feelings are, and reason for their being. With all of mine grown, I don't get many hugs anymore. Still a few, thankfully.
