Thinking of You

Thinking of You

A Poem by Monica Chen
"

Sometimes the faces you can't recall are the ones that bother you the most

"

I’m thinking of you and feeling alone

But I can’t remember your face

Or why, when I see these couples walk by,

I even miss you

I don’t miss you -- I really don’t

Because if I did, I would remember

Your face, your smile, and the way you laugh

If I missed you, I’d know your name

Your face that I don’t remember

Would have a name that I did remember

So I could text you even if you won’t respond

Just so I can rid myself of this sinking feeling

Why is it that after a long vacation,

After a stage, or a party that lasted past curfew

I always manage to feel so empty

I’m empty and lonely and thinking of you

I think of you -- you faceless demon

When it starts to pour and

Rain throws itself against my window

Willing me to break down and cry

But I can’t.

I can’t until I’ve figured out

Why I bother to feel so empty and lonely when

I’m thinking of you

i think the demon is faceless because the speaker doesn't want to remember the face, she blocks it out because with the face, the pain is all too real...and the memory too alive.

third line i read "couples"....

i like the confessional style of this...emptiness always seems to inhabit us...and we try to coexist...best we can.

A lovely worded poem Monica, you feel that sense of bewilderment. Some people do leave impressions well after they have gone, must be their charisma. even worse the person in question won't read this expressive, impressive piece of writing!!

you may unleash the beast!! haha!!
The people that we miss may be the ones who we don't really get to know. Their subtle, ephemeral presence can bring a hidden joy that can be missed when absent. We don't understand how significant these people are until they are no longer around. Who knows; they could have been a possible lover or friend. Whoever they might be, they bring us life.

Well done!
