Symphony Lost

Invincible, I may have thought to be feeling

Though thoughts and resolve are surely reeling

Each hour where sleep evades, strength is slowly degrading

My soul screams after answers that are inevitably fading

Bridge between mind, body and soul has ultimately collapsed

Discord and distrust become consistent friends

Sanity from off its lofty perch descends

Remnants of myself a shadow of what was once secure

The lighthouse beacon has become utterly obscure

A typically inquisitive mind is silent

Floating on my insignificant raft of principles and rationality

Crashing into massive waves of doubt, slowly shattered against the desolate banks of reality

Navigating desperately thru impenetrable night

Intimately aware of the pointlessness of my plight

The symphony of the universe, for me has lost its tune

Very intense. I like how the rhyming, while not unexpected, doesn't feel corny or out of place. Our minds can truly be terrifying places.

This might be the first "polished" piece of yours that I've read so far . . . I've been enjoying your journal-type writings, but this one really shows off your poetic talents. You use many powerful expressions to convey how intense this feels to the narrator. Tho another reviewer suggests "mental breakdown" . . . I would say anyone who has everyday mood swings can also relate to this. Sometimes our minds are like torture chambers & you've shown us this with palpable imagery.

Despite near 40 odd views, I can't believe there's not a raft of comments in praise of this fabulously penned, expressive poem on the catastrophic effect on the self whilst in the throws of a complete mental breakdown?
