Through a child's eyes

Through a child's eyes

A Poem by SarahCortland
"

The things children see

"
He peers behind the corner
He listens to his daddy yell
He's of an innocent age
But has lived through hell

He watches as daddy hits mommy
He cries his silent tears
He wants daddy to stop
To comfort him from his fears

He feels so helpless
He wants to stop the fighting
He steps around the corner and sees
Mommy was gone a terrible siteing

He grew up just like him
He was as mean as could be
He forgot about the eyes around the corner
His son who didn't need to see

"Mommy was gone a terrible siteing " i'm not sure what you mean with this line. do you mean a terrible site? This is a very delicate subject. A very good one to write about and make your own, but i feel that that this is the typical setting. It's too generic, we're always worry about children and domestic violence trickling down the line. It would of been interesting to see something that made this issue your own.

AAn excellent piece that all to clearly brings the unfortunate cycle of violence out of the darkness and into the light.

This has been proven that many children tend to grow up from example. Its hard to blame a child who grew up in a house full of abuse and not expect it to rub off on them. This makes us wonder how we should act and what we should do for our children who lurk around the corner. Great write.

This is a sad thing and it's a vicious cycles . No one wins in those situations. I like how you took it back to the thing he forgot that he hated and found tragic.

The cycle of hate is tragic. Women in these homes can grow up to abuse their partners emotionally as well. Its a sad thing in these situations, but people in general tend to recreate the home they grew up in. Nice work.

Wow.
This was great. The rhyming scheme you used only added to the imoact of the message.

I LOVE the last section of this piece, especially the final two lines. Only one small thing: would it be "sighting" instead of "siteing?"

I absolutely love this. It nearly made me cry. I can relate to this so well and it really opened up my mind to some issues in my life that I have trouble understanding. This is an amazingly written poem, you did a fantastic job putting it together and making it a piece of art, in my mind. Thank you so much for writing this, it truly is beautiful.
