Young On The Run

 

Looks like I’m off the hook,

And on the run.

For cheating your ambitions

And denying you your fun,

Because I just can’t compromise

On something so it satisfies

Your wishful thinking.

My life is not yours for the tweaking.

 

Looks like I’m off the hook,

And on the run.

For telling how it is,

And what I have planned all along

For my salvation isn’t here

And mediocrity, I fear

Just isn’t for me.

I swear I have a higher calling.

 

Looks like I’m off the hook,

And on the run.

I know you’re not impressed,

And you’re not pleased by what I’ve done,

But I’ve decided, I should act

To get my own life back on track;

It’s my decision.

You want to help?  You’re more than welcome.

I’m glad that finally,

You see where I’ve been coming from.

Because a life of nine to five

Could never make me feel alive,

So now I’m running,

Toward my future that’s been calling.

I felt this way when I migrated to the Netherlands from America; I felt like I was running away from what everyone expect of me, and it's taken a long time for me to let go certain feelings of guilt, but it's getting there. This poem really touches me for those reasons. I am glad you are on the run too - it's liberating, and it takes guts! =D
