Arrow

Arrow

A Poem by Amanda

look at it glisten as it flies
how beautifully made it is
so sleek and thin
perfectly made
to pierce through skin

it glides through the air
as graceful as a swan
avoiding the flood
they say all the beauty
is in the first drop of blood

it digs into the body
slicing through flesh and bone
almost like art
carving a beautiful incision
on top of the heart

it engraves a name
with it's pointed edge
so deep until it's caught
the head of an arrow
there stuck in a knot

too deep to retrieve
too deadly to try
there it will stay away
now leaving aches whenever the name
you attempt to say

but you're told it's beautiful
despite all the pain
others know nothing of
though that my friend is the twisted thing
you and i call love
