Skateboard and Skateboarder

Skateboard and Skateboarder

A Poem by J.L
"

Keep going.

"
I saw him walking
Then I saw him run.
I saw him alone
Under the setting sun.
I saw him step on,
I saw him mount
Slowly
Then fast
I saw him roll.
I saw him gain confidence
I saw him grin
I saw him fly
I saw him with his arms stretched out.
Then I saw him crouch
I saw him jump
I saw it fly
I saw him fall.
I saw him land
He landed hard
And lay there
Arms spread out
Breathing hard:
I didn’t think I could fall.
But I saw him roll over
I saw him kneel.
Hands on his knees
A spinning wheel.
Squeaking faintly
His skateboard
Upside down
On the ground.
Then
I saw him sit back up
I saw him crawl
I saw him pick it up.
The squeaking stopped
He put it down.
Right side up
He put a foot on it
He tried again.
And this time
He knew he wouldn’t fall and
He didn’t.
