So Voided

So Voided

A Poem by Cate Mcgowan

My skin lays sheer upon frayed bones,

Still plush and deep

With pieces of you

And the whole room smells like earl grey tea

And wax crayons

And it’s as if I am wrapped up in you.

Yet it’s clear that i am lonesome,

Condensed in myself,

Still floating with the vivid vision of words on your tongue,

And writing them on paper,

So I can hold them in my hand

Or keep them in my pocket

As I pry

At the hours gone by

Worried when we will meet again.

If you were here

I would collect the auburn from your eyes like fireflies.

If you were here I would lets tears come

If they so please.

If you were here maybe I would say I forgave you.

After passing years

Of you not being with me.

I feel a layer of vigor,

Thicker than any touch you left.

If you were here I could forgive you,

But as it seems,

You are only here

As that vow that’s consuming the air,

And orbiting my conscience,

And keeping me awake at night.

“I’ll

Love

You

Forever.”
