THANKSGIVING MEMORIES

THANKSGIVING MEMORIES

A Story by Barbara Lynne

How lovely it would be

To see them run around

But everywhere I look

There's no one to be found

The sound of children laughing

Once filled this love filled house

Now it's empty and so lonely

And as quiet as a mouse!

I remember all the fun we had

As we prepared for the holidays

Everyone thought we were silly

For our not so “normal” ways

We'd make a pie from scratch

With whatever we could find

Pumpkin, squash and apples

And spices of every kind

The smell of roasting turkey

Made hungry tummy's roar

The gravy and potatoes

We always wanted more

The children loved to decorate

With crafts they made by hand

The tiny pilgrim figures

We could never get to stand

We'd spend hours at the table

Sharing stories as we ate

The stories lasted longer

Than the food on each one's plate

And when the night came to it's end

And the children were tucked in bed

I'd get down on my knees

And humbly bow my head

Those days I'll always cherish

And the way things used to be

Now we live in “different” places

But we'll always be family!

About
I have been writing poems and songs since I was a young girl. Sometimes it is easier to say how you feel and what you dream in a poem or song than it is face to face. I appreciate all comments and t.. more..
