Belle

Belle

A Poem by Neko Green
"

I'm tired of watching pretenders laugh and make it seem so easy to be fake.

"
This masked ball-
this massacre of Name and Face-
lays waste to independent means
by means of dependent beauty;
by meandering path of cloak and pseudonyms,
by anonymous.

What an open space-
what a closed time-
have we borrowed for this masquerade,
by means of slow side smile;
by quirking eyebrow and twitching limb,
by a liar's game.

And I dare only touch upon the fame-
these codependent belles of society-
who's words wander lustfully through both my ears,
by means of meandering fingers down piano keys;
by a cacophonous lullaby and steel-string plucking,
by flattered shame.
