The Times, They Are A-Changin' (Rewritten)

The Times, They Are A-Changin' (Rewritten)

A Poem by nickchidiac

Come gather ‘round friends of the friends I have known,

And make peace with the fact that your all all-alone

With the fear that the reaper would somehow have known

Of the secrets you’re secretly savin’

And you better start lyin’ or your cover is blown.

Oh the times, they are a-changin’

Come fathers and mothers on who’s pedestals we will stand,

And keep your mouths closed so your ears understand,

And aloud come the words off the palm of my hand.

“I’m not the good soul you’ve been raisin’”,

And although you will cry and so crudely command,

The times, they are a-changin’

Come lovers and losses and please take a bow,

For you presence in this act is not needed now,

My belief that not caring is caring somehow,

Will star in the show that I’m stagin’

No darlings will dwell, no more crooks in the crowd.

Oh the times, they are a-changin’

Come preachers and teachers,

Don’t miss my soapbox rants.

Don’t judge me because of the style of my stance,

Your impressions are made on the back of my hand,

But my hand is too busy waivin’

I’m rising and falling into such a trance.

Oh the times, they are a-changin’

The foot, it is down on the foot of the past,

The wheels of my wagon just don’t spin as fast

As the mind weaving webs that I’ve focused at last,

My notions are narrowly changin’

And the fears I'm afraid of will forever be smashed.

Oh the times, they are a-changin’

I love Bob Dylan's work. His writing style is unique and I've been a huge fan of it since I first heard it. I thought it would fun to rewrite one of his classics from my own perspective. Tell me what you think.

That's an amazing thing. The idea of remaking it and your words, as well!

Hmm I've never really listened to any of Bob Dylan's songs~I think. Lol. But maybe I have coz this sorta feels familiar somehow. Anyway, I love how you've written it on your own perspective, it was catchy and I really do like it. The flow was very nice but then again from what I've read in your profile you didn't change the rhythm and flow of the lyrics that you've rewritten? Anyway fine not basing it on the flow, well, content was awesome xD Times do change, though sometimes people stay the same like what Crusaderscross said, however sometimes too, people change over time. Well anyway there :P Great job :D

Liked the rewrite. For me times change but people stay the same. I noticed this during my studies. The times influence people but people essentially stay the same in nature.

This is my take anyway. I may be way off

Nice. I'd have never known it was a rewrite if you hadn't said it was.

Not a Dylan fan but I think your rewrite's pretty cool on it's own

I haven't listened to this song, but it stands alone pretty nicely even without the song. The repeating lines was good. :)

You captured the essence of Dylan's sly wit and irony, even his impish needling of people who think they have and know things.

Good job.
