A Poem by MandaBear

Something I thought of while watching a History channel Documentary.

Closed eyes and a soul departed
Cold, damp and dark in a lonely underground
Laying breathless full of memories.
A life lived above the sorrow.

A solitude so quite and alone
In the ground so deep
A tomb for a lifetime of sleep
In this place will your soul keep

Under the rubble, sand and stone.
A body full of flesh and bone.
Words are written on the stone.
Here lies the mourned soul shown.

Dirt covers the case like tomb.
Buried deep down in the earth.
The loudest sound is a whisper in the wind.
Under this earthy mound.

A body decomposed and oh so old.
Less and less flesh and bone.
On our way to our internal home.
Going toward the light with a sweet embrace.

Closed eyes and a soul departed
Cold, damp and dark in a lonely underground
Laying breathless full of memories.
A life lived above the sorrow.

"On your way to your internal home."

That was pretty awesome. I really enjoyed this work. You've described something very powerful and very deep. Again, I was amazed at the way I felt as though I was truly in a grave as I read this.

This is wonderful, and so descriptive! I love the words written as they move deeper and deeper to what a grave is. Nice job! :)

That last line is so awesome Amanda.. the poem as a whole phenomenal.. Even though this is about death.. It reminded me of how some of us choose to live this poem with one foot moving in front of the other... Excellent write..xo :)

I like those places where the families bury their dead on the land of birth. Give the place some history and story. I like your description and the photo. Thank you for the excellent poem.
