Third Wheel

Third Wheel

A Poem by MandaBear
"

Ever felt like one? I know I have. Us third wheels have to stick together.

"
Ever wonder if you are just the third wheel?
Like you are the last resort?
You have friends but you seem to be at the bottom.
I say Join the club.

Sometimes its like no matter how hard you try its not hard enough.
You try so hard to like some of what they like.
No matter what you still feel left out.
Just sitting in the ever lonely place of last.

So even if you do like something they like you don't like their "other" friends.
Its not that you don't like them its just they aren't the kind of people you would hang out with.
Now, I am not saying different is bad certainly not different is good.
Just seems like the friend you have is more interested in them because of the simple fact they have more in common.

Ever wonder why you are the third wheel?
Is it because you dont try? No that can't be it.
Is it because you dont want to be the other wheels? No that's not right.
Is it because you are not trying hard enough or trying to hard? No, No.

Sometimes you want to tell your friend how you really feel but cant.
Although you know it will go in one ear and out the other.
Even if you do say it will that change at all?
What difference would it make anyway? Some? Little? None?

Then again it could be you. (Oh no, you didn't)
Yeah, really what is it about you that makes you that way?
Do you think if they see you they wont understand you?
Do you think you were just meant to be the third wheel?

Of course, being the third wheel must have advantages.
At least you know that if something does go wrong you are on the list somewhere.
You dont have to hang out with people you dont want to or dont know.
You can hang out with the other third wheels.

On the very occasion it is your turn to see the friend you will have more to talk about since you haven't seen them in a while.
Maybe if you see the friend you could be invited to a party that you didn't know they were having.
Of course you could not do those things and do whatever you want.
You could be the soul writing this poem about being a third wheel. (whatever floats your boat)

So I leave you with this and simply this:

Is being the third wheel all that bad?

It was an interesting choice to make this a poem about being the third wheel in a friendship, as opposed to being a third wheel with a couple. Good job on this! Definitely worth reading.

Probably not so bad to be a third wheel at times. It gives the chance to play devils advocate to either side and share wisdom, advice, ideas from an outside point of view. If you're gonna be a third wheel, play it up and be remembered.
Cool poem.
