Under these clothes

Under these clothes

A Poem by Thomas

Peel off all pretenses

And what would you see

I was the one made for you

And you were meant for me

Finding that it's not the feeling

But the simple clothes we don

That keeps us from one another

Until the feeling has gone

One world full of people

Each with individual taste

But under these clothes, would we find

That our taste has gone to waste

We are all just halves

Longing to be whole

To find the other half of our heart

The other half of our soul

Under these clothes, you will see

I fit within your arms

If we had that freedom

None could bring us harm

However, we need these clothes

To hide who we really are

We fit within lovely cliques

That only seem to mar

So if I wore Abercrombie and Fitch

The Gap, Hot Topic, or Old Navy

H&M, Wal-Mart Brand

Men's Warehouse or Macy's

Would you see me for who I am

Or just what's on the outside

Would you judge a book by the cover

Or see what's to love inside

I enjoyed this poem and the message it's intended to send. I agree with it wholeheartedly. As for the writing itself, the poem is well-written. I can always appreciate a good rhyme and it has a nice flow. Throwing out all those familiar brand names at the end was a nice touch. Good job.

Indeed you know the response. No matter what we wear, people will tend, most of the time, to judge us differently from what we really are. Indeed, from someone dear, we expect a little more comprehension, but it does not always fall on the right time!

A lot of people don't have the means to express themselves in the clothes they wear. A lot of people are misjudged in what they mean to express by the clothes they wear. Everyone loves to talk about stereotypes, what's real and what isn't, but i think your poem gets to the heart of the matter; what you see is never what you get. This was really beautiful and thought provoking. I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing.
