from Venus

from Venus

A Poem by Marina N. Lovrić

I came to you from the deep water in July
my glowing dark hair reflecting in the sun
blinding you,
I strip the pearls from my neck
and I stand in front of the ocean,
gazing at my reflection
you should beware of the goddess I see in it

My beauty will haunt you
In the seventh month that is still to arrive,
After I am long gone,

As I was born in July
In July I shall leave too

A "godless engineer"... thought-full that.

On vacation or just a summer's whim? A "knowing" confidence of the level of attraction you draw. It IS a good and timeless image. "Essential woman and the sea".

An interesting ending to this one. Is the speaker presaging her death? Or is she really a goddess, able to appear and vanish at will? After the last line, we want to know more.
