Liars

Liars

A Poem by Nourhane

Maybe they lied because the truth was too ugly.
Or was it because it was too empty?
Was the reason behind all acts,
the cuts of deeply wounded hearts?
Was it true they didn't find hope?
But we thought otherwise.

They weren't lying to deceive us,
they were lying to deceive themselves.
They weren't lying to fill up their emptiness,
they were lying to fill up the world.
They weren't acting to heal,
they were trying to understand why.

They were trying to understand why they've been lied to,
why they've been deceived.
They've been lying to to know if it feels good.
They've been lying to know if it heals anything.
They've been lying to understand what it is to be the liar.
To understand what it feels like.

And it felt like being dominant of relations,
like being dominant of the world.
Like ruling and controlling your fate.
But, there comes a time when,
all words left unspoken must be said.

A time when all secrets must be known.
A time when all the hurt must be healed.
A time when enemies will be revealed.
A time when what you hide in your heart
must seek the light.
And a time when the truth would kill
more than it rescues.

Wow you did a great job describing liars and how in the end all things will be revealed. Some lies seem to stay hidden for a very long time but you're right - they eventually have to seek the light - or perhaps the light seeks them out? Very good poem :)
