A Father's Legacy

A Father's Legacy

A Poem by Odin Roark
"

As fathers, it’s difficult to not “father” our children. And then there are the exceptions, another breed of parent, providing discovery rather than command. I was fortunate to the have the latter.

"
A Father's Legacy
by Odin Roark

Like a snow-covered road
Winding upward through
Lesson-markers of
Redwood and pine
His time on this side
Remains an odyssey
Lovingly preserved

Rock and rut obstacles
Remain for tomorrows yet dawned
Destiny's beneath-the-surface hindrance
Reminds one will stumble again and again
Until watchfulness is learned

Such roads become trailheads
Traversing inevitable
Paths narrow
Climbing saps energy
Air becomes thin

Still
Above the clouds beckon

Such quiet guidance
He left behind
Frozen footprints of wisdom
For me to discover
In my own season
