Indulgences & Togetherness

Indulgences & Togetherness

A Poem by Onlyme

Christmas dinner is on the table. With the festive tree in the corner,
glowing and twinkling. So bright with all it's lights and decorations with the angel on top
.

The children are seated at one end, as are the adults at the other.
Grandad and father doing the honours,  of the carving of "the Bird".
Mum and grandma, helping dish out all the rest of the goodies onto
everyone's overfilled plates dawned with food.

"Merry Christmas" is said out loud, to one and all.
"Now tuck in everyone one".  And have a nice meal.

Bellies are rumbling. And a few are a little tipsy with sherry for Grandma
and some Whisky for Dad and Grandpa.

Mum was too busy to enjoy a little refreshment. So she had a candy bar
to ease her tension earlier on in the day.

The children are giddy and loud. What with Santa's visit earlier on in the day.
With all their presents splattered around the house. From all the gifts they got from
all the uncles and Aunts and the grandparents too.

After dinner, with some trifle and Xmas cake, with some coffee or a cup of tea
for the adults. And some juice for the children. And even some after eight chocolate
to finish all off.

Stomachs are blotted and little ones are feeling sick. With all the rich food.
from this great memorable great day.

The dishes are piled up in the kitchen. For the women to do. As both dad and
grandad are fast asleep on the large sofa. Like, cute little kids. As the
children lay beside them both. Snoring their heads off too.

Oh, the joys of overeating and family all around. Hard work and effort.
For this great occasion of indulgence and togetherness.
