By the early light of Christmas morn.

By the early light of Christmas morn.

A Poem by Onlyme

By the early light of Christmas morn.
she lay in her hospital bed.
Her newly wedded husband
holding her fragile hand
as she quietly slips away.
He smiles and fondly thinks
to himself,
feeling  sadness
as he wipes tears
from his eyes.
And says out loud with such
passion and understanding dying
real love.
I love you Emma and I always
will.
I know you are in heaven.
Resting with God,  by your side
at present.
And one day in the future.
We shall meet again and be
forever in eternal heavenly bliss
my dear sweet angel of a wife
I love and adore
and always will
forever more.

Farewell of an angel/beloved wife in a holy day is truly melancholic and maybe beyond that....the one who goes through such depressing incidents knows the real feeling of devastation....Sad and meaningful write at the same time..
Hope you're well dear Dawn...missed you....
LOL (lots of love)😁 *Hugs*

An engaging piece with a truly beautiful sentiment to it. The whole poem is just full of raw emotion. I like the little rhyme at the end as well, it adds emphasis nicely and rounds out the poem wonderfully!

This brought a tear to my eye. I feel the melancholy in your words when the husband says his goodbyes. Beautiful piece, Dawn.

Thank you that was so nice of you to say. bless you. Dawn
Touching narrative tribute. I thought I was exchanging critiques with Dawn. But that is not a problem. This poem touches the heart and visits a topic dear the hearts of all who have laid a loved one to rest. The imagery is simple but strong, and the sentiments reflect strong convictions of Christian faith. Well done. I might have recast one line in the last verse: "And some day I will come too" to avoid duplicated meaning.

A poignant moment, beautifully captured, dear Dawn. Whatever shape the future takes, life will not be the same for him ever again. A touching poem.

How painful for a husband to have to endure at Christmas time. Your words in this poem penetrate the soul. Keep writing and enjoy a wonderful Christmas. :-)
