Nothing Like it used to be ..........reminiscing

Nothing Like it used to be ..........reminiscing

A Poem by Onlyme

The normality of going back to the everyday grind
of living after the Holiday Season.

Get up early to go to work,
your long job hours, then travelling home again.
Paying taxes, rent and for
food and other necessities like gas, water etc.
Does not come cheap.

After the massive blow out you paid for over
Christmas and the New Year.
Your bank balance is in the red.
But your wife and kids are happy.
And you think. Now I need to get me
bank account happy now.

Overindulgence, greed and hard work.
Accumulated to spending more than you meant.

What it actually all worth it?

Having that expensive top
of the range Christmas Tree
those fancy decoration
in and around the house.

Exotic posh food for
Christmas day and Boxing Day
to show off to your guests
and family.
Let alone the presents
you gave everyone.
So called in the spirit of Christmas.

I am a pessimist I really believe
Christmas has gone to the dogs.
It's nothing at all like it used to be when
I was a child.
It's all just showing off
to the neighbours and friends.
And seeing who got the
most expensive gift this year.

Bah humbug. I am a moany sod.
Miserable New Year folks.
From someone who misses the
old ways. Of sharing and caring.
And simple things. Of love and
kindness to each and all.

Not flashing the cash and showing
off like it is nowadays.

That not Christmas.

Or just getting pissed out your head
For the New Year.
And just can not even remember
where or how you ended up home
later that day?
Tut tut.

Each to their own. I know.

Just wish Christmas & New Year
was just how it used to be Special
like years long ago.
