Upsetting.

Upsetting.

A Poem by Onlyme

When you are born there are
normally at least a few people
around to welcome you in this world.
With happy faces and a warm heart.

When you died. You maybe are
alone, scared and in pain.
And not always are you lucky
to have someone there to hold
your hand and comfort you.
As death comes at opportunistic
times and when you least expect
it.

So spare a kind thought for someone
who has passed without any family
or even anyone near them.

Not a home or in a hospice, hospital
with family and loved ones
around them as they pass.

Basically, no one knew they had died.
Until it was far too late to do anything
to help keep them alive.

I know life is fragile and fleeting.
But that really does profoundly upsets you.
To hear another has passed
unnoticed and gone for good
from this earth alone and maybe scared
at that suffering in pain. Lingering on
alone in their final hour on earth.

So true dawn.. so true I have a lady i have been taking care of for about 15 years that has no family she helped me out a long time ago and I have been taking care of her ever since. I only have step children and i often think to my self how easy it would be for me to be in her shoes. She has progressed to the point that she requires assisted living so i don't get to see her as often but I am her self appointed sentinel if we all could do that for someone there would be a lot less lonely folks out there!

Dawn - I told you I volunteer and visit several patients a week in an extended care facility. They are so grateful for the little time I get to spend with them.
We celebrate Dr. Suesse's birthday with them and I get to read one of his stories to a large group of the folks there. Yes, yes I know they're children's stories , but they're delighted to have them read to them. I have a blast being the different characters in the story.

Over the several years I've been visiting, many of my "patients' have passed on. Even though I know that they are more or less residing in "God's" waiting room
it pains me when they leave.

Take care - Dave

I go and visit people in the nursing home all the time, and volunteer at the Veterans Hospital or i go to St Jude's and just read to them. When it starts getting warmer and my broken foot heals I will be right back there. I like this it speaks in volumes

Oh you are bad, I must admit. I did the same. Just becareful you don't hurt yourself.
A sad but sensitive piece that recognises the isolation some endure until the bitter end.
A couple of typos I may have spotted?
Third line 1st stanza "around to welcome you to this world" ?
Third line second stanza "to have someone there to hold"
