Modern Day Prisoners.

I sometimes feel pity and

sadness at animals

stuck inside zoos and

wildlife sanctuary.

Thinking in this modern day

and age.

That they just can't live

their lives in peace and harmony

on this earth running free and wild

without limits in the oceans and

rivers let alone in forests and

lands across this planet.

And without someone

wanting to do them harm

and kill them to near extinction.

I know in my own heart and mind

If it was not for these places.

They would be long gone on this planet

called earth.

But my poor heart feels

for these creatures

as they are gawked at

and made to look

like pieces of meat on show.

And sometimes to perform and amuse

the crowds. Like they would be expected

to do in some places in this world where

dolphins and whales display their talents

and the audience applauds at their agility

and cleverness.

I have seen some of the zoos you described and took um bridge with, but thankfully I have seen quite a few where as Chris describes they receive top medical treatment. The environment they live in is very much like they would experience in the wild and not have the concern of being hunted down. I must tell you that of all the animals I've seen the Bengal tiger, in my mind , is the most beautiful.

I think animals in zoos are looked after particularly well these days. Have seen so many zoo programmes on TV to demonstrate that, where the animals receive first class medical care and don't go hungry. Those are UK zoos though, not sure about other parts of the world. I am far more concerned about animals in their natural environment who are being hunted to the point of extinction. I think of elephants, tigers and rhino's, hunted for ivory or their skins. Tragic situation. Thought provoking lines here Dawn. All good wishes.

it is a sad predicament is it not...Zoos do keep animals in cages...yet they also protect species and allow them to reproduce and not become extinct...and they allow us to learn about them...i actually love Zoos because i love animals...maybe i am a bad person for liking the zoos...and maybe i should want them all to be free...but i do feel the best zoos protect and care deeply for the animals.
