Where has uniqueness gone?

Where has uniqueness gone?

A Poem by Onlyme

Do you really want to
grow up into a society
this is so fake and transparent
and to want be a wanna be?

With no individuality and uniqueness
about yourself.
Just a doppelganger of yourself and
others around you.

With plastic surgery, botox.
Fake tans, fake nails and so on
with.

In debt to have the last trainers
and clothes lines.
Let alone most up to date IPhones.
And other electric gadgets.

When I was younger
we where more truer to ourselves.
Instead of following the latest trends
and fades society had to give us.

This younger generations of younger teens and adults
are so brain washed
by pop stars and actors.
Pumped into their brains
day and night.
By televisions,
radios stations and internet.

They are carbon copies of each other now.

What you say is so unfortunately true. I can so easily remember all the fantastic things we did as kids that didn't require all the gadgets they seem to need to have today. Toys and games we had and played that actually stretched the imagination. Just the other day I was bemoaning the plastic game of "Battleship", that any idiot could play. I first played it on paper and pencil and you actually had to think to find the enemy. Oh well.

Very true Dawn. Many young people do feel the presure to conform and certainly social media is a huge pressure. However there are also many young people such as our daughter who remain true to their ideals.
Well done Dawn and very relevant today.
Al the best.

I like this poem the best of yours on here. I can hear the angry ranting in your voice and agree with what you are saying, but are we listened to?

Amen, Sister! You hit every nail on the head. This world is too full of people who are so eager to fit in that they'll do the dumbest things. They're like farm animals, following the herd. Not me. I'll do my own thing and behave in accordance with my own truths, likes and dislikes. A great and timely poem, Dawn.
