The Last of the Dead

The Last of the Dead

A Poem by Patricia
"

a goodbye

"
I have buried the last of my dead
I smudged the corners of my body

and under my skin
where so many have crawled beneath
I rinse away in baptism

this is their ending and
tonight I sleep alone
if they were here do you think they would cry?

my eyes are dry and of a different color
lighter with a couple fine lines in the corner
they have barely aged at all, they smile

I'm tired and tonight I sleep alone
if they were all here do you think they would cry?

This could be the demise of the family, bad blood.
A baptism of fire and a new beginning.

Nothing worse than not being in control.
wow, love is dead...but the speaker is not...she has survived and is even stronger...the second stanza indicates the "starting over" she is experiencing...and she is sleeping alone by her own volition...her choice.
yes, they would cry wishing they had treated her much better than they did.
