Practice

A lone figure gazes out,

Almost stumbles on the slippery surface

From lack of experience,

Gains her balance just in time.

She rubs her mittens together

Then takes in a breath,

Gliding like a swift bird,

Skates crunching against the ice,

Bounds up and twirls,

Spins once,

Spins twice,

Almost making it back down on her feet,

Yet doesn't.

Grunting in frustration,

She gets back up,

Ignoring the desperate cries of her aching muscles,

Forces her body to neglect the pain

For the competition is near,

And skates back to the other side again.
