The Words

The Words

A Poem by Alexis Turner
"

a poem

"

I found some words, on the tip of my tongue

I tried to start the flow, but the words wouldn't run

I asked if they'd walk, that was no fun

I needed just a few, they wouldn't give me one.

But I fought those words to the bitter end

Till my mouth couldn't move and my mind couldn't mend,

And the words spilled out, an intangible mess

Not the words I had wanted, but words nonetheless

The words had come out, and I thought I'd won

But these words were different, on the tip of my tongue

They'd twisted and flipped, as they had come

I looked for some more, but the words they were done.
